The School of Hospitality yesterday visited Blue Post Hotel for an orientation program conducted at the hotel in conjunction with the College.
This is a regular eye-opener visit for all first-year students in the Hospitality Department to the prestigious hotel as they begin their course with the leading College.
The program is aimed at equipping students with the industry’s current trends while mentally preparing them for the course.
“The purpose of this trip is to educate our students of the various departments in a hotel set up. This way, they are then able to identify the areas they feel most comfortable in as they embark on their career, ” said Mr. Owino, Head of Catering and Hospitality Management.
The students, through the help of the jovial staff at Blue Post Hotel explored the kitchen, stores, bar, restaurant, laundry, housekeeping, conferences, front office, human resources, sales and marketing departments.
“We have a good number of staff members from Jodan College from the engagements we’ve had for the seven years. We have been offering internship opportunities for their students as well so we know who exactly we are working with, so far we’ve not had any trouble with any of them,” reported Senior Chef Steven Wandu of Blue Post Hotel.
He proceeded to note that the internship opportunities should resume as soon as the impact of the pandemic is neutralized.
“I would like to thank the school for such an opportunity to visit a top hotel and see how things are conducted. I’m a new student here and I feel at home already because now I clearly know what I want to pursue in Hospitality, ” said an elated Linet Kamau.
The program has been running since July 2013 through the help of the management from both ends.
